Following the devastating floods in Mon and Kayin States in August 2019 the water authorities in Myanmar asked the Dutch government for technical assistance. A DRR-Team mission took place in September 2019. The DRR-Team consisted of Teamleader Marco Hartman, Carolien Wegman (HKV), Alex Hooijer (RHDHV), Tanya Huizer and Phuu Thit Kyaw (Arcadis) and Kees Sloff (Deltares). The long term objective of this DRR-mission was to contribute to the reduction of the impact of flooding in the river basins of the Bilin and Thanlwin catchment. The DRR-Team made recommendations for the short, medium and long term. The DRR-Team report was presented in Myanmar on 18 December to DWIR and subsequently discussed in the National Water Resource Committee. The report has been shared with several ministries in Myanmar for follow up. The full report can be found here.
