DSS water and the Netherlands Red Cross are organizing a training on technical design and economic analysis of Solar Water schemes with support of the ECHO-funded Solar and Water initiative. This 3-day training (free of charge) will be hosted live from 14-16 September 2022 in The Hague, and is developed for experts with a WASH or Energy background. Please note that costs for accommodation and transport will be at your own expense.
About the Solar and Water initiative
Solar water pumping improves reliability and reduces the cost of providing water to people affected by humanitarian crises. Solar pumping systems have been successfully installed in camps in Kenya, South Sudan and Tanzania. The largest of these is able to pump 60.000 liters of water per hour. However, awareness of the benefits of solar pumping amongst practitioners and policy makers remains low. The overall aim of the solar & water initiative is to increase the number of solar pumping systems being used globally within humanitarian operations.
This training will discuss:
- which water schemes can technically be solarized;
- the availability of water;
- the amount of water needed in specific situations;
- the hydraulic principles of incoming and outgoing water of the Solarized Water Pumping System (SPWS);
- the financial sides of SPWS.
You will gain understanding of the functions of different components in a solarized water schemes and be familiarized with the use of solar design software. During the training, you will work on the design of a solar water scheme.
